Frequently Asked Questions
We have more than 15 years of experience with development, testing, and production of AAD. The last generation of m² AAD is one of the most sophisticated devices of its kind on the market.
Testing is ongoing on several levels:
How was m² tested?
Adjust function is primarily determined for entirely different purpose – for the permanent increase of activation altitude at the calibration point of the device. Any other use can lead to an incorrect function of the device. Offset temporary function only serves for the landing outside the landing zone.
Can I use Adjust function for repeating landing outside the landing zone?
After the airplane takes off, it is necessary to unlock the device’s height lock in the shortest possible time, the sports version is about 450m, tandem 900m. Once the height lock is unlocked, the device will not recalibrate not even if the airplane stays on hold on flight level for a long time.
Can m² be recalibrated during the long wait on flight level?
You can contact the dealer where the device was purchased if service is required at the manufacturer (you can find the list on m2aa.com website Europe/USA), or you can send it directly to MarS a.s. company with the required comment.
INFO doesn’t display data under D (opening altitude) neither under G (gravity)
Information about opening altitude D and to gravity G can be displayed after the last jump. This data will be reset if the device is off and the opening altitude or the gravity cannot be displayed until the next jump.
After setting the mode OFFSET + 300m and subsequent landing on the planned area there was no automatic shutdown of the m2 as shown in the manual
This option may occur if the altitude set in the device does not match the actual landing altitude. The device is thus still in Flight mode and it is necessary to turn it off manually.
Who and where will provide the service to m²?
Student profile is generally intended for beginners, flying on student canopies with wing load lower than 1. Activation speed 13m/s covers most of the malfunctions on the main canopy, descent speed below 13m/s gives higher chance for survival if the malfunction is not successfully resolved. That is the maximum we can do for student protection. Keep in mind, that activation parameters 13m/s in 330m can be exceeded even on student fully functional canopy. That is why it is necessary to avoid long turns with rapid altitude loss in the activation zone and keep student landing pattern with 90 degrees turns for landing – square pattern.
The intermediate profile is intended for students, who have already gained some experience and proper habits. Activation speed 20m/s doesn’t cover as many malfunctions as Student version, however, it is very resistant to all maneuvers on the canopy even in the activation zone. An instructor makes the decision about the suitability of profile in case of students, skydiver must decide based on his own experience and type/size of his main canopy.
Why does m² Multi have two student profile?
The cutter is flat only by external shape!! This construction prevents unwanted movement and rotation amongst the harness flaps during and after packaging for use. No damage to the cutter or grommets occurs. Internal construction includes ax knife which cuts the reserve parachute closing loop during the activation.
How does the flat cutter works?
If Adjust function is set, eventually Offset, this function is displayed on the display and it is well visible. The name of the profile and A letter with a number 1-9 are displayed, determining how many meters the activation altitude is higher. Every number represent 30m of altitude.
If Offset function is set, the initial letter of the selected profile and subsequent increase or decrease marked+/ – and altitude in meters or in feet.
How do I recognize whether Offset or Adjust function is used on m² on a borrowed rig?
The question has 2 levels. The best solution for landing outside the airfield, where the device was calibrated – turn the device off and turn it back on with the new calibration on the airfield before the next jump. It is the same procedure as when jumping ends and a possible way home when it is always the best to switch the device off.
m² Multi has the ability of automatic calibration, so the device is recalibrated to correct barometric pressure after the landing outside the airfield and subsequent transport back to the airfield. The best way is always to turn the device off and on.
Do I have to deal with m² prospective landing outside the landing zone?
We suppose it is misunderstanding between you and airport staff. The airport usually tells you QNH (pressure recalculated on the see level) and m2 AAD tells you QFE, real barometric pressure in place where you are. Ask airport, which barometric pressure they are giving you.
Try compare the pressure on your device with another device. If different is not higher than +/- 15 hPa, your device is ok. (see also User manual, chapter 9.4.1.)
My m2 AAD display the pressure 0987, but from airport I get very different pressure. The difference is higher than 20 hPa. What is wrong?
